8D Look everyone! A commission! Anyone remember a lovely Silver Dragoness?? Well, the commissioner, *msinabottle, and the person who created this lovely creature apparently liked it so much that they wanted another!
I love painting metallic creatures for the challenge of it, but I also kind of hate it for the same reason. That is not to say that other colored critters aren't difficult in their own right, its just that light refraction is a very fickle beast.
As it stands, I believe I'm getting better with it! I tend to prefer the shiny look, not so much the glassy, chromatic one.
I must also mention these wings. These gorgeous wings are probably the best ones I have ever painted. A tip for anyone trying to get better with these things is to REALLY focus on the subtleties of the wing, feathered or not. By their very nature, wings are subtle, and the subtler something the easier it is to screw it up. Take the time to get good reference (and not just Google, either :<) and practice practice practice! I have a whole collection of photographs I took of bat wings in a museum and they're incredibly helpful even if they were taken with my phone and kind of suck. When it comes right down to it, drawing from life is the ABSOLUTE BEST PRACTICE a person can get! It might be hard and suck, but it seriously is THE way to go. ;D
VERY impressive ^^
