So here we have it, a piece I have been working on for very nearly a year under the watchful eye of my mentor, Todd Lockwood. This was a requirement of my college for graduation, so it's a pretty big deal.

My life went through a lot of changes during the creation of this piece, some good, but mostly bad. I became a home owner (to a home that needed/needs to be gutted and rebuilt, unfortunately), I flew for the first time to visit one of my best friends in Colorado, I entered into my senior year of college, I had a few pieces published as playbills for a theater in Pitman, NJ. During this time, I also lost my father, which was a very hard hit and set the creation of this back quite a bit.

Finishing this is a great weight lifted off of my shoulders and I am very proud of the result. Mr. Lockwood was a wonderful teacher and very willing to see this turn into something to be proud of. He was patient and understanding, which is something I am more grateful for than he might know. I have entered this (among a few other pieces) into the Society of Illustrators Student Competition, so let's see if anything comes of it!

The story here takes place shortly after the man, Zedrion, and his partner, Avorel, defect from the military of their homeland to pursue a greater cause. They are exploring one of the many caverns to be found in the mountains, following rumors that the location of the rebel faction the Guilded Sun can be found there.

Just stumbled across this, surprised I haven't seen it before. I can't say I know who lockwood is, and I'll probably be pelted with rocks for that statement judging from everyone else's reaction lol, but I do know this is better than a lot of professional work I see these days in books and whatnot. Even concept artwork for large gaming corporations~

I think my favorite parts about this are the addition of the bats, the detail paid to the saddle, and the way you can see feathers behind those that are in front. A lot of people don't hint to the layering of feathers when it comes to painting, but it's the small details that can make or break a piece.

I want to reach out and touch the moss, to feel the early morning dew on my hands. At least, it looks like morning, and the faint sparkles look like dust specks and dew.

This is what I aspire to be someday. Ever since I found your artwork with pern I have been fascinated and amazed by you. Keep doing what you do so well~

The scenery and your characters blend together so naturally, they aren't just plastered on a background or an alien landscape despite their purely fantasy based origins. Incredible ;o;

I'm sure everything I love about this has already been said, but I must say some of it!The lighting is absolutely amazing! I really love the way it goes through the griffin's wings! The reflections on the water are superb as well and I really love the moss

I love this whole thing and it looks like a great adventure is about to begin!

This is fucking amazing. This is literally what I aspire to. The colors, the composition, the way the moss and the feathers seem to glow, the way the colors contrast with each other, the way the bats move you through the piece, the sense of motion and grandeur and just--

I am in complete, utter awe of this, to the point where I might actually cry just from the visceral emotional reaction i'm having to this. It's nuts.
